Below, more details from a news release:

The 2nd Annual Pizza for Paws will take place Monday, April 21 through Wednesday, April 23 at all Longo's Pizza & Joey's Italian Grille locations. During this event, supporters can purchase a large one-topping pizza for $10 and 100% of their purchase will be donated back to the homeless animals at Lake Humane Society. This fundraiser is a simple and delicious way to help animals in need in Lake County!

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the animals by selling 1,000 pizzas during this fundraising event. We cannot do it without the support of our community! A donation of that size can help make a difference in the lives of hundreds of injured, abused and abandoned animals. All money raised will go directly towards the general care of the animals at Lake Humane Society.

Participants must present the Pizza for Paws flyer (see below) at the time of their purchase. One voucher per pizza is required. Additional charges may apply for additional toppings. Visit Lake Humane Society’s website to download and print your voucher now. Hang it on your fridge as a reminder, too!

Participating Locations:

Longo’s Pizza (North Mentor): 7314 Lakeshore Boulevard, Mentor

Longo’s Pizza (South Mentor): 8907 Mentor Avenue, Mentor

Joey’s Italian Grille (Chardon): 209 Center Street, Chardon

Joey’s Italian Grille (Madison): 2731 Hubbard Road, Madison

Please save the dates for this fundraiser and plan on having pizza for lunch and/or dinner. Want to help even more? Encourage your place of work to have a “pizza party” for all of their employees to support your local non-profit humane society! Send LHS pictures of your pizza day and you might end up on their Facebook page or website.

We’d like to thank the Longo family for holding this wonderfully generous fundraising event!
The Waterloo Alley Cat Project has planned its fifth annual fundraiser for 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Road, Cleveland). Read on for more information from a news release:

The Waterloo Alley Cat Project is proud to announce its 5th annual fundraising event to help raise funds and awareness to the work being done for the feral cat population living in the Waterloo business district of Cleveland. This year the event is FREE thanks to a neighborhood Vibrancy Grant awarded to the group from The Kresge Foundation and Northeast Shores Development Corporation. The night will include silent auctions and basket raffles featuring fabulous items donated by artists and local retailers. A recent donation was received from a writer of the hit TV show BREAKING BAD who has family ties in Collinwood featuring a signed script and other BB collectibles. Free food will be provided from local restaurants; music by local DJs Party Sweat and Junky Bee; a slideshow of the neighborhood feral cats; and special guest mc will be The Ghoul. A truly fun night for a good cause. Monetary and cat food donations will gladly be accepted at the door, but are not required for entry to the event.
The Waterloo Alley Cat Project (WACP) is a small nonprofit group of 7 dedicated people volunteering their time to care for and protect the abandoned/feral cats that live in the burgeoning arts and retail district on Waterloo Road in Cleveland, Ohio. WACP implemented the humane method of trap-neuter/spay-release in November 2009 to help the large number of feral cats in the community. As a result, they have spayed and neutered over 200 cats, found homes for approximately 20, and are currently managing 3 healthy cat colonies. Through teamwork, their mission is to protect the lives of all feral cats and teach that all life is connected.

Below is a news release with tips and pointers on keeping your dogs fit and active from Camp Bow Wow CEO and founder Heidi Ganahl:

Identify and Prevent Obesity

Signs to indicate your pet is overweight

Pet tires easily

Difficulty getting up

Visually, there is a lack of a waist line and you are unable to feel the ribs of your pet easily

Breathing problems

Arthritis

High blood pressure

Hair coat problems

Tips for readers to get in shape with their pets

Invite a neighbor dog (one that likes to play) to come over for a “play-date” to make them more active

Take your dog on a hike –great cardio and muscle-building activity for both pet and owner

Take your dog to pet friendly stores with you for extra exercise

Sign up for a run/walk (5K) that allows pets, so you are able to stay active with your furry friend

Cut down on treats for your dog and feed responsibly; count calories

Consult with your local vet on nutrition

Keep your pet active and set responsible goals that will become a daily routine

Examples of human foods that can quickly lead to pet obesity

Snacks like potato chips and ice cream, or more commonly cheese and peanut butter (which are frequently used to conceal medicines) are quick ways to pack on the pounds

Other solutions

A lot of products and diets are marketed and available for pets, which can help ameliorate obesity

Some dog food companies are following “prepackaged” and “measured” systems, which help to avoid over-feeding, as well as appetite suppressant products

Benefits of Socializing Pets

Physical exercise keeps dogs from displaying behavior problems that dogs who don’t get exercise tend to display, like chewing, digging, excessive barking, etc.

Just like humans need friends, so do dogs. They need a core social group of other dogs to interact with - especially if they are an “only” dog at home.

A tired dog is a good dog! Camp wears the dogs out from all of the stimulation that they get (both mental and physical), so parents get to bring home a nice, tired pup at the end of the day.

Keeping your dog socialized will help keep dogs from displaying serious behavior issues like aggression toward other dogs or people.

Getting dogs out of the house on a frequent basis helps stimulate them mentally. Dogs need as much mental stimulation as they do physical stimulation to keep them happy and healthy.

For parents that have longer work hours and don’t have as much time to walk their dogs as they would like to, camp gives the parents a great way to give their dog the benefits of interacting with other dogs and people instead of leaving them at home.
