Top reason why I hated to see Pope Benedict XVI resign is summed up in this quote I stumbled upon:

“The street talk that the pope loves cats is incorrect. The pope adores cats,” said Cardinal Roger Mahony, the archbishop of Los Angeles.

Now, that's my kind of pope.

Word is Benedict will spend his retirement praying, writing his memoirs, reading books and playing with his two cats.

Not necessarily in that order, except for the praying part, of course.
