Caroline's Kids cancels dinner/auction
Caroline's Kids' dinner/auction planned for Nov. 5 has been canceled. A new event will be planned for a later date. More information will be published on Pets Unleashed as it becomes available.
Keep jack-o'-lanterns and candles out of reach of animals and their tails (from Halloween Safety Guide)
Don't let animals (especially black cats) outside, or keep them in a separate room during trick or treat at parties. Noise and doorbell-ringing may stress them out. (from AMVA's Paws for Pets)
Dress your pet in reflective costumes, and don't leave a dressed-up pet alone because they make chew or choke on their costumes (from About.com's Veterinary Medicine guide)
I've seen the aftermath of a squirrel vs. my jack-o'-lantern, but I've never seen the rodents in action. Thankfully, others have caught the destruction and posted it on YouTube to share with the rest of us:

Baby animals of any species are adorable, but there is something incredibly precious about these bear cubs that appear to be about the size of a cat. (Found via Super Punch's Video roundup)

Happy Tails, based in Chester Township, is a nonprofit cat sanctuary that is currently filled to capacity. The sanctuary has found adoptive homes for numerous cats, but some will spend their lives at Happy Tails because they are unadoptable because of age or disabilities. The sanctuary is recovering from a fire last year, said Jeanne Bones, Happy Tails founder and director. "Happy Halloween Tails" will help the facility provide food, shelter, cat litter, veterinary care and heat in the buildings for the cats.
Anyone who cannot attend the event but still wants to help can send a tax-deductible donation to Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary, P.O. Box 581, Chester Township, OH 44026.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife in Australia recorded this awesome footage of a baby wombat "taking its first, slightly wobbly, steps out of its burrow with its mother." How sweet!

These cats are just so fat. Maybe I shouldn't be laughing at them because I'm sure they have some health problems, but they are pretty funny:
